Our Parents Say…

The Learning Habitat has provided a safe, fun learning environment for my 3 children the last few years of homeschooling. Ages 8,11, and 13 they all 3 have been diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia. The environment and choice of classes offered has allowed my children to excel in the areas they are strong in, while receiving the classes, support and tutoring needed to help them grow in an area of struggle. Strategies, skills, philosophies that the tutors are trained on provide the children with a challenging environment that is safe and allows them to try, which results in them pushing themselves to learn. The environment allows the children's natural ability to problem solve and pose their own questions to research at all ages. The field trips and events that are arranged and hosted by the school provide an authentic way for the children to experience the real world around them now, from the past and to experience things that will impact the future. The environment that has been established allows children of all ages to interact together. This allows the older children the opportunity to be responsible role models for the younger children and a variety of relationships to be built. The growth that my children have made is hard to describe without actual observation but it is more than I could have ever hoped for. - Erin

Each and every tutor and especially you have been supportive of our family. I know he is enjoying school as he is always super excited to share the work he did that day and the flame has been reignited for his love of reading. We have not seen that in almost 3 years. Each night he attempts to read part of his bed time story and pulls out his writing board and attempts to write the words. Each one of the tutors have made a huge difference in such a short time.- Beverly

We are so grateful to have found The Learning Habitat! My child was struggling in the public school system. He was frustrated and falling further behind each year, despite accommodations and interventions. So we took a leap of faith and began our home school journey. The first year was bumpy, but then we found The Learning Habitat—and the experience has been nothing short of wonderful. Instead of the “one size fits all” education model found in public school, The Learning Habitat excels at meeting each child exactly where they are with engaging, hands-on learning and outdoor education whenever possible. The tutors are highly qualified and truly love helping each child succeed. My child has regained his confidence and loves learning again. Subjects he dreaded in the past have now become some of his favorite classes!

The Learning Habitat also fosters a community for social and emotional development where children can build meaningful connections. My child (and I) have made many new wonderful friendships within the Learning Habitat community. It's amazing just how much children can thrive and grow when they are comfortable and happy in their learning environment! - Danielle

I spent a lot of time deciding how I could find an opportunity for my third grade girls to expand their educational experience. I began to realize that they would benefit from additional socialization with other kids their age but was challenged by finding a place that would respect our home school values and be a positive experience for my girls. I took a lot of time and spoke to a lot of different people and finally decided that Learning Habitat might be a good fit for us.

We were invited to an open house, and not only did we feel very welcomed, I was so pleased to see that the teachers and the principal were all present and truly excited about the upcoming school year. The girls and I were immediately put at ease and couldn’t wait to start. The process to sign up and choose classes was very easy and the variety of classes was a great surprise. The girls have been taking classes that not only add to their academic success but also have been able to expand their curricula with an art class and even a bug class and they are having so much fun! When they first started school, they were apprehensive, not wanting to wake up early, get ready and go somewhere new with people they didn’t know, and they were acting very shy. Very quickly, we all realized that this place was special. In the morning, the kids can all enjoy the playground before school starts and then the teachers are always there to welcome them into school. They are greeted with hugs and smiles and after just a few days, the girls were very excited to get to school. After school the teachers and the principal are there to send off the kids, talk to the parents and always make us all feel so cared for. It’s only been 2 months since the girls started at Learning Habitat and I am pleasantly surprised that they are absolutely blossoming and growing in their academic skills, social skills and excited to come home and teach us about all the things they are learning. In addition to the classes, we signed up for, the school offers many field trips and activities throughout the year. The girls loved taco night, especially having their teachers and the principal help them make tacos and getting to take us on a tour of the school. We had a fun adventure at the NC zoo and got a private educational session on snakes which was really fun, and we just signed up for the weeklong trip to Williamsburg, can’t wait! Learning Habitat has been a true blessing for our family! I am so grateful to have this opportunity for my girls. I know that we made the right decision to take a chance and sign up. -Stephanie

An incredibly educational environment for all learners. Neurodivergent kids thrive at the Learning Habitat because the tutors know how to make children feel safe. Cannot more highly recommend it! -Lindsay
